Gibson Electric Membership Corporation hosted a large crowd of members at Hickman County Elementary School on Thursday night, April 6 at its 86th Annual Members’ Meeting.
Members received a bucket and bulbs at registration and picked up other giveaways at the event booths. They were treated to barbeque sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, a packaged dessert and drinks. The Josh Williams Band provided excellent bluegrass band entertainment.
During the business meeting, Board Chairman Steve Sanders welcomed everyone and talked about Gibson EMC’s on-going mission to improve the quality of life for its member-owners. “Yesterday, we provided electric service to the rural areas,” he said, “and today, we are providing another essential service – high-speed, fiber-based internet, phone and TV – through our not-for-profit subsidiary, Gibson Connect.”
Dan Rodamaker, President and CEO of Gibson EMC and Gibson Connect, talked about the cooperative’s strong emphasis on safety and its dedication to meeting members’ needs with reliable and affordable service. He also reported on Gibson Connect’s progress with its buildout in Kentucky. “We know that you are just as eager as we are to get Gibson Connect internet, phone and TV services to all of our members in Kentucky,” Rodamaker said, “If all goes as planned, we will complete our broadband buildout by the end of this year.”
Rodamaker encouraged everyone to subscribe. “We have an outstanding product, local tech support, and affordable pricing,” he said. “Why wouldn’t you want to buy internet service from a company you own and help hold down the cost of electricity and internet service for the entire membership? It’s a win/win,” he said.
After the annual meeting adjourned, the Gibson EMC and Gibson Connect board met and elected officers. Steve Sanders was reelected Chairman, Keith Heglar was reelected Vice Chairman, Bob McCurdy was reelected Secretary-Treasurer and Bruce Kimbell was reelected Assistant Secretary-Treasurer.
