Gibson Electric Membership Corporation hosted a large crowd of members at South Gibson County High School on Thursday night, March 31 at its 85th Annual Members’ Meeting.
Members received a large umbrella at registration and picked up other giveaways at the event booths. They were treated to barbeque sandwiches, chips, a packaged desert and drinks. Endless Highway provided excellent entertainment.
During the business meeting, Board Chairman Steve Sanders welcomed member-owners and talked about Gibson EMC reaching the milestone of providing electricity to members for 85 years. “More importantly,” he said, “we continue to meet your evolving needs and improve the quality of life in our communities. Today, we are working to provide another essential service – high-speed, fiber-based internet through our subsidiary, Gibson Connect.”
Dan Rodamaker, President and CEO of Gibson EMC and Gibson Connect, talked about the cooperative’s strong emphasis on safety and being member-focused. He also reported on Gibson Connect’s progress. “At this time, we have completed construction of 2,809 miles of our fiber network and we have 11,200 members subscribing to Gibson Connect’s internet service.” Rodamaker said, “Gibson EMC is eagerly awaiting Kentucky’s response to its grant application to build there. It has been difficult to wait, but while we are committed to providing high-speed internet access to all of our members, we also are committed to doing so as economically as possible.” Rodamaker encouraged those who have Gibson Connect high-speed internet services available to subscribe. “We have an outstanding product, local tech support, and affordable pricing,” he said. “Why wouldn’t you want to buy internet service from a company you own and help hold down the cost of electricity and internet service for the entire membership? It’s a win/win,” he said.
After the annual meeting adjourned, the Gibson EMC and Gibson Connect board met and elected officers. Steve Sanders was reelected Chairman, Keith Heglar was reelected Vice Chairman, Bob McCurdy was elected Secretary-Treasurer and Bruce Kimbell was elected Assistant Secretary-Treasurer.
